the shona alphabet with trymore

Trymore loves learning Shona

When you sing words in Shona they sound similar to words spoken in English phonetically.

So to say a it would sound like ah

e is eh

i is eeh

snd so on…

Trymore is going to sing the single letters version for today. So that is

A

B

D

E

F…. and so on…

C, L, Q, and X do not start words on their own in the Shona alphabet”

Trymore will tell you more in the video.

This is just the first part of the Shona alphabet. More videos will be coming where we explore two letter starts to the alphabet.

We’ll give you a clue.

Those are:

Get to know Trymore

Trymore is a common name in Zimbabwe. When we were looking for names for our puppets it came up pretty much straightaway. We love the name Trymore.

It’s not Shona, but it is very commonly heard around Zimbabwe. We have relatives with that name.

Trymore lives in the UK with his parents.

They both work a lot so he spends a lot of time with his Gogo. You will meet her soon. Trymore loves his Gogo. She teaches him lots of fun things about Zimbabwe and his relatives who live there. He has been there a few times and he can speak Shona and English pretty well.

His favourite food is sadza.

His favourite thing to do is playing with his friends Kwazi and Eddy.

Together they have lots of fun adventures like the one on this page.
