Let’s talk about Shona family roles. Each member of the family has responsibilities to respect. But what are these?
We are carrying on our discussion of Shona family relationships and the structures of the household by beginning the discussion on the expected societal roles within households.
There are many expected roles and these are common across the Shona people but for today we will only focus on the roles of these people:
🎀Sekuru
🎀Mbuya
🎀Baba
🎀Amai
🎀Dangwe
🎀Tete
These people have many different roles in the household but today we will only focus on nine roles. Seems like a lot doesn’t it? It’s not really and there are many other roles that are expected of them in different life situations. The Shona are a close-knit community of people and traditionally lived in close proximity with each other so the opportunities for role modelling and learning from each other were plentiful.
