kubva pa madzitateguru kusvika gotwe

Today we are talking about hukama paChiShona – family relationships in Shona culture.
Today we start an exploration from ancestors right down to the last born in a house. It will be in this order:
πŸŽ€ Madzitateguru – ancestors
πŸŽ€ Great grandfather
πŸŽ€ Great grandmother
πŸŽ€ Grandfather
πŸŽ€ Grandmother
πŸŽ€ Father
πŸŽ€ Mother

We will then explore the different names given to the wives in a polygamous household. As you will be aware the practice of polygamy was widespread in Zimbabwe. It is still practised in some places.
So the names of the wives are different in each of these households as well as how the different children relate to them.
We also explain the hierarchy in these households.

We then go back to exploring monogamous families and the Shona names for these parents.

Then we explore the Shona names for
πŸŽ€first born child
πŸŽ€second born child
πŸŽ€third born child
πŸŽ€last born child

We hope you enjoy this exploration into Shona culture. Please feel free to ask any questions in the comments section below and any discussions.
